Ours involves an incredible man, my father in law Dave. He was an ultra distance runner in the 80's, long before most people knew what a marathon was. He was one of the first to run Rowbotham's Round Rotherham (then 48 miles) and he completed 9 marathons in 9 months in his quest to run under 3 hours (which he did!). He completed numerous ultra distance events, including LDWA 100 mile challenge events and in 1985 he completed the Bob Graham Round in 23 hours 38 minutes.
My husband Lee inherited his Dad's genes and love for running. He has completed numerous ultra distance events round the country including five 100 mile event completions.
He's been sidelined for the last 2 years and it has been during this period that we have been able to explore hosting this event, something that Lee and his Dad had discussed over the years.
Dave has run or walked all of the trails in this event with Lee. He would have loved to have done this event.
Lee learned at an early age that whenever he was struggling up a mountain, his Dad would provide the immortal words of encouragement 'there's a cafe at the top'. In fact, his earliest recollection is of a trip to the Lake District, when he was struggling up Great Gable at 10 years old!
We have two girls and they are now wise to such encouragement! It's a good job there is usually an ice cream van at Burbage Edge, as our 7 year old certainly picks up when she spots it!
Thanks to Dave, Lee and our kids for being the inspiration for this event xxew paragraph
